Alcazar Theatre – A Charming Historic Venue in Carpinteria
Nestled in the heart of Carpinteria since 1928, the Alcazar Theatre first opened its doors as a cozy 337‑seat movie house under the vision of Hollywood actor Oliver “Ollie” Prickett. Through the decades, the theatre went through several name changes: Ritz Theatre, Del Mar Theatre, and Plaza Theatre, before returning to its storied original name!
After periods of closure and renovation, the venue was revitalized in the mid-2000s and reopened as a vibrant performing arts space, today hosting movies, concerts, live theatre, and community events.
Now operated by Carpinteria Community Theatre, Inc., a dedicated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Alcazar continues to enrich the local arts scene with its intimate charm and cultural legacy.
Why It’s Ideal for the Carpinteria Film Festival:
Historic charm: A film-lover’s dream with nearly a century of cinematic legacy.
Community centered: Managed by a nonprofit deeply rooted in the region’s artistic life.
Versatile venue: Suited for both film screenings and a variety of live arts events.
