Filmmaker Name: Jaime Andrade
Short Biography About Filmmaker: Our names are Tatum Davis, Natalie Aymond, Jack Phillips, and Taylor Ortiz. We all just recently graduated from UCSB and were lucky enough to be grouped together to make "The Kelp We Breathe" last summer. Making this film was a true labor of love that we hope allows audiences to experience our oceans and kelp forests in a light that goes beyond the surface level.
What type of films do you most love to create?: Speaking for myself, Tatum, I love films that are able to change the way that individuals perceive the world around them. Film is an incredibly powerful medium that allows audiences into worlds they wouldn't otherwise ever know about and brings awareness to issues that are happening in the society we live amongst. It's a privilege to be able to amplify the voices of topics that struggle to be heard, therefore, I love the opportunity to be able to assist in that and hopefully create a more understanding and compassionate environment to learn from.
Any notable awards or recognitions?: 2025 Santa Barbara International Film Festival Official Selection
Fun fact or interesting tidbit about yourself: "The Kelp We Breathe" was the first film any of us have ever made. I (Tatum) am so proud of what we were able to make in 6 weeks with little to no previous knowledge and the experience has catalyst my desire to be a documentarian in the future. To remind myself to always venture into the unknown, I got a kelp tattoo in honor of our film!
