Filmmaker Name: Kevin McDevitt
Short Biography About Filmmaker: After a decade producing & directing commercials for Apple, Adobe, & Sierra Nevada Brewing, writer/director Kevin McDevitt made headlines (Time, Yahoo) with his "Good Blood" viral PSA for the bone marrow donor registry. The music video starred Kevin & his wife Stephanie amidst his recovery from a bone marrow transplant, and became an international call to save lives, winning Australia's Cause Film Festival & Be The Match's Awareness Award in the process. Having determined that life is too short to work in advertising, Kevin now works with nonprofits like First Descents and builds his artist-centered independent film studio, Slacker. He also programs and produces Ojai's local film series The Film Lab, with 805 Film Collective. His new film, "Bike Short," is an action-comedy on an indie mumblecore budget. Next up is a memoir, a pickleball comedy short, and his forthcoming first feature.
What type of films do you most love to create?: I love making DIY independent films with a small crew and a lot of heart. I tend to make comedies and am working on many satirical projects, but I also have some historical thrillers in my treasure chest.

Fun fact or interesting tidbit about yourself: My music video for the bone marrow registry was covered by TIME Magazine, Yahoo, ABC News, etc. I'm now 10+ years removed from my life-saving transplant and doing extremely well. I'm a dad to two boys now as well.
