Filmmaker Name: Harry Rabin
Short Biography About Filmmaker: Rabin attended UC Santa Barbara, majoring in BioMedical Engineering and Dramatic Arts along with a brief stint at the American Film Institute. He has worked as a writer, director, cinematographer and producer on dozens of documentaries, indie, and feature films. A few accolades for his filmmaking include Emmy award winning productions, awards for technical achievements in film and recently he was the recipient of the prestigious Academy of Underwater Arts and Sciences award for the Environment. From indie to documentary to Feature film, the journey has been a road well traveled across the globe. As a documentary filmmaker Rabin’s main goals are to create awareness, to bring important stories to light, to educate and to stimulate solutions for many of the challenges our planet and humanity face today. Much of Rabin’s work in the documentary field has been seen on NatGeo, Discovery, BBC and most major networks. His passion for the ocean and all marine life within it prompted the formation of non profit Reef Guardians in both Hawaii & California where he plays a lead role in working with researchers to better understand today’s problems and create solutions. Some of Rabin's long standing relationships include working as official advisor and liaison between universities, communities and non profits like Heal the Ocean, Whale Sanctuary Project and also with government agencies like NOAA, USGS, USCG, Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary, Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, California State Lands and more.
What type of films do you most love to create?: Anything that challenges the environment especially where the ocean and near shore eco-sytsems are involved and most important creates action for positive change.
Any notable awards or recognitions?: Academy of Underwater Arts and Sciences-Distinguished award for the Environment
Recognition from both Fire departments and Sheriffs office for contributions made during disasters by supplying both land based and aerial based footage to aid in search and rescue and damage assessment.
Fun fact or interesting tidbit about yourself: Well I have been bitten not once but twice by sharks, who said lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place!
